Queensland Election 2024: Astrological Insights on Key Issues
Queensland Decides
At the close of polling at 6pm in Brisbane for the Queensland election, the chart shows Taurus rising with Venus in Sagittarius in the 8th house, suggesting the public may be in the mood for an ending or significant change. The current government is represented by the 10th house in Aquarius, with Premier Steven Miles as retrograde Saturn in Pisces in the 11th house—a decent placement, with a mutually applying square to Venus. This could imply that Miles might be fondly remembered or perhaps won’t lose as many seats as anticipated.
The opposition is represented by the 4th house in Leo, with David Crisafulli as the Sun in Scorpio on the Descendant. While the Sun is always on the Descendant at 6pm (when polling closes in Australian elections), it doesn't always rule a party leader, giving him some accidental dignity. When assessing the dignity of both Saturn and the Sun, they seem equally balanced.
The deciding factor for me is the Moon, representing the mood of the people, which is in Leo in the 4th house—the house of the opposition. This suggests alignment between the collective mood and the LNP. Additionally, the Moon’s next aspect is a square to retrograde Uranus in Taurus, indicating a desire for change, positioning Crisafulli in the right place at the right time.

Key Election Issues
I’ve identified these election issues based on what is being talked about in the media as well as the chart indications. The hour ruler offers a hot lead to follow—like offering a scent to a smell hound, except the hound is the astrologer.
The hour ruler is Mercury, governing both the 2nd and 5th houses, and positioned in the 7th house. This draws attention to cost-of-living issues (2H) and matters of pleasure or fertility (5H).
Cost of Living
We’ve seen a significant cash splash from the government, quickly matched by the opposition's promises, including 50-cent public transport fares and discounts on car registration—a clear nod to the Gemini theme of transport. However, retrograde Jupiter in detriment in Gemini in the 2nd house suggests these measures may not be ideal for the state's economic stability. With Mercury in the 7th house, it seems the public is expecting 'someone else' to resolve the debt.
Abortion
Mercury also plays an intriguing role with the unexpected emergence of abortion as a recurring election issue. Crisafulli and his LNP candidates have faced repeated questions about a conscience vote should the Katter party move to repeal the legislation decriminalising abortion. Mercury, ruling the 5th house of children, is in Scorpio—a sign often linked to death and surgery. These themes resonate with the applying aspect between Saturn and Venus, suggesting this issue may work in Labor and Miles’ favour, particularly with female voters.
Youth Crime
The issue of youth crime has been central to the LNP's election pitch; however, it's not as prominent in the Queensland election chart. Astrologically, children are 5H and signified by Mercury in this chart. I would expect to see a stronger emphasis on the 12th house—the sector connected to prison—if this issue were going to sway votes on a large scale. Crisafulli has said, "If there aren't fewer victims, you won't be seeing me," referring to the 2028 election. The planetary link here is Mars. Mars rules both Aries (12H) and Scorpio (7H). Crisafulli's planet is the Sun in Scorpio. Mars is poorly positioned in Cancer in the 3rd house—news, media, promises—so I do not think this bodes well for our next premier.
Nuclear Power
Aside from the Sun, Pluto is also a prominent angular planet, located on the 9th house side of the midheaven at the tail end of Capricorn. Pluto is linked to nuclear technology (including power plants and weapons), crisis, the underworld, and mass destruction. When a planet is at the end of a sign, it signals impending change—here, from conservative, traditional Capricorn to progressive, scientific Aquarius. While the state LNP is resisting pressure from their federal counterparts, Pluto's prominent position in this election chart suggests the issue is not going away.
